  Why get "personal" when discussing a topic?

  trading insults happens among kids all the time.. intellectual development hasn't progressed to the point where they can present contrary ideas and opinions with persuasive appeal to reasons, facts and logic.. "i know you are; but what am i?".

  "your momma's so fat....".

  so, they fall back on childish mocking, provocation and personal attack.. as we grow older and have more education and sophistication our minds should mature---or so you'd think!.

  i've been reading a lot of the posts and agonizing with/for folks who are trying to fade or come out of the wtbs.

  there seems to be this recurring theme of family still in, trying to keep from losing them.. this seems almost universal no matter the group.

  there is no middle ground whatsoever.

  It's not easy making new friends, but I know that "worldly" people are more genuine and open in their friendships than JWs ever could be.

  A guy who wanted to rush into a r'ship based on a profile on a dating website would immediately raise red flags for me.

  It's usually best to take things slowly. Yes, even start with meeting at Starbucks for coffee and then build up to a "date at somewhere special".

  Best news in a long time - manned mission to Mars planned

  i was reading this news article and it brings out that nasa is planning a manned mission to mars.

  nasa plans to work with other countries on this mission, and not just go it alone.

  it turns out that the obama administration has set a goal for nasa to have this done by the 2030s.

  Yep, leave this planet a desolate wasteland and do the same to Mars, then look for another planet to screw up.

  We need to fix this one up before we have the right to inhabit any others.

  it struck me, as i guess it has a lot of people, that there are so many threads from both americans and the rest of us that seem to descend into america bashing.

  i thought it might be quite nice to have a thread solely (and i mean solely - if this just turns negative i will call foul) on what we think is great about america.

  as a brit who has lived and been over a number of times there are many parts about america that i think are great and thought is would be healthy to have a positive thread for a change.. so a starter for ten (with a few gross generalisations thrown in):.

  Who On This Site Would You Like To Meet?

  there are a lot of interesting people that frequent this site.. sometimes, we get an idea of what the posters are really like in "real life".

  and i'm sure i could be easily surprised by some that you think might be strong personalities because of their board presence, and in reality, they might be shy in a face to face setting.. i would enjoy meeting simon.

  simon used to be terribly annoyed by my posting and now i think he's accepted with tolerance my being here.. farkel seems like a grouchy cantankerous fellow but i think he'd be very interesting company!.
